Nesting in the Himalayas ,Himachal Pradesh is truly a tourist's paradise , with rugged snow peaks ,deep gorges , lush greenery  and golden valleys ,apple orchards ,misty woods ,fast flowing ice rivers , glaciers and awe-inspiring lakes . With a number of spellbinding locations for relaxing and sight seeing , Himachal Pradesh provides an ineffable charm to all who come to savoir the fragrance of nature .

 History of Himachal Pradesh:

The aryans came and settled here after defeating the local tribe Dasas. Subsequently the region was controlled by successive Indian empires like Mauryans ,the Kushans , the Guptas and the Mughals .Later ,the British gained supremacy in this region  and annexed the areas of Shimla after the Gurkha war of 1815-16 .The British established many hill stations here and Shimla became the summer capital of India and even today there are many magnificent old houses and buildings that stand testimony of english  grandeur . After independence , Himachal Pradesh was declared a Union Territory in 1956 and it later became the eighteenth state of the Indian Union on 25th January 1971.

Geography:

Almost fully mountainous with altitude varying between 350 meters and 6,975 meters . Himachal Pradesh has five zones .They are wet sub temperate zones , humid sub- temperate ,dry temperate alpine highlands ,humid sub tropical zone and the sub- humid sub tropical zone .

Major Rivers:
sutlej,Beas , Ravi ,Chenab , Yamuna.

Climate :
In the valley areas ,the climate varies from hot and humid to freezing cold in the alpine zone which remains under snow for about six months year . Temperatures range from 40'C  in the plains during winters . The average annual rainfall is about 1600 mm.

Flora :
Vegetation varies from dry scrub forests at lower altitudes to alpine pastures at higher altitudes. These regions are covered by mixed deciduous forests with oak ,deodar , chil ,spruce ,bamboo , kail and fir .

Fauna :
Himachal Pradesh is the natural habitat for many wild animals and birds species like the musk deer (The State Animal) , Himalayan tahr , snow leopard ,wild boar ,ghoral ,leopard , ibex ,western tragopan ,brown bear , sambar ,barking deer, monal(The State Bird) , cheer , white crested kaleej and snow cock .

Festivals of Himachal Pradesh :

The major festivals of the state are the Kullu Dussehra, Shimla's Summer Festival , Lohri,Maghi , Basant Panchami , Mandi Shivaratri ,Holi ,Nalwari fair , Baishaki ,Lahaul Festival ,Phulech(festival of flowers ) and Minjar fair .

Hindu Temples:
Jwalamukhi , chamunda Devi,Brajeshwari , chintpurni, Baijnath , Laxminarayan , Chaurasi , chhatrari , Taranadevi , Rewalsar , Raghunath , Bijlimahadev , Dhungri , Bhimakali , Hatkoti Jakhoo, Sankatmochan, Kalibari , Nainadevi and Vajreshwari are the main temples .

Buddhist Monasteries:
Dharmashala Tashizong ,Rewalsar ,Manali , Kadrang , Sashur , dhankar ,Tabo, Nako, Pooh, Kanam , Jangi , Murang , Ribba and Reckongpeo.'

Christ Church(Kausali), St.Andrews Christ Church (Shimla), St.Johns church(Mecleodgan) and St.Francis Church (Dalhousie).
